How to sell your car

The first thing to do when selling your car is to be patient.  If your car does not sell within a year or you have nobody come round to look at it within a couple of months, there is something wrong with you or the car!

Here are a few tips to help you flog your car for the money YOU want.

  • Always take time to clean the car thoroughly.  You only get one chance to make a first impression, so don’t spoil it by allowing the buyer to see the car caped in mud.
  • If you are selling an older car do not wax it over and over.  This will just expose any little dents or scratches in the bodywork.
  • Be prepared to drop your price a little in order to secure a deal. £50 isn’t worth the hassle of having to keep the car with you until somebody else comes along!
  • In your adverts always state the good about the car but avoid using abbreviations such as FSH (full service history) or PAS (power assisted steering) as many will not know what this means and be put off. Always say full service history, the condition and tell people what they want to hear in order to get them to physically view the car.  If you can include a picture in your advert do so.  Nobody will be interested if they cannot see what the car looks like!
  • You could sell your car for hundreds more just by taking an hour to clean it inside and out.  As the saying goes “you can polish money into a car”
